Your Photo on Canvas

The canvas is wrapped around the wooden frame. So that your motif is fully visible on the front, the edge of the image is mirrored or extended around the sides. Still, important details such as faces or text shouldn't sit right at the edge – you can check this in the designer.

Phone and camera photos usually have an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 3:2. If you choose a different format, e.g. square, you set the crop in the designer. You can find out more in our article on aspect ratios.

The canvas arrives already stretched over the wooden frame. What's included for hanging is listed in the features above – usually all you need is a nail or a screw in the wall.

A recent phone or camera photo in its original size (not forwarded via a messenger app) is usually enough. Canvas is forgiving: the fabric texture hides slight blurriness, and as a rule of thumb 100 to 150 dpi is sufficient – so for 60 × 40 cm, roughly 2,400 × 1,600 pixels. Usually it's enough to dust the canvas every now and then with a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster. For light stains, you can carefully use a microfiber cloth that is only slightly damp – but never spray water or cleaner directly onto the picture, and don't rub hard. Harsh cleaning agents are off-limits, as they can attack the printing inks.

We advise against it. Canvas and wooden frames absorb moisture – with steam or high humidity, the frame can warp and the fabric can become wavy. Outdoors, rain and strong sunlight add to this. For damp rooms, more resistant materials such as aluminium Dibond or acrylic glass are the better choice.

We print with UV-resistant ink so the colors stay vibrant for a long time. Still, the same applies to every wall picture: constant direct sunlight will make colors fade over time. So it's best not to hang your canvas on a wall that sits in bright sunshine all day.

A tried-and-tested rule of thumb from galleries: the center of the picture should be at roughly eye level, i.e. about 1.50 to 1.60 m above the floor. If the canvas hangs above a sofa or a sideboard, leave about 20 to 30 cm between the furniture and the bottom edge of the picture. That way the picture and the furniture look like a single unit.

Canvas is matte and slightly textured, hardly reflects at all and looks warm and painterly – ideal for living rooms and bedrooms, portraits and atmospheric motifs. Acrylic glass is glossy, makes colors shine brilliantly and shows fine details pin-sharp, but can reflect in direct light.
