Your Photo on Acrylic Glass

With acrylic glass, the photo sits behind a glossy, crystal-clear panel – which makes the colors look especially vibrant and deep. On the other hand, the surface can reflect depending on the light. Aluminium Dibond has a more understated look. If the picture hangs opposite a window, aluminium Dibond is often the better choice.

Motifs with strong colors and high contrast: sunsets, the sea, mountains, city views at night or colorful collages. Thanks to the brilliance, even fine details look very sharp.

Acrylic glass is honest: the glossy surface and the sense of depth make details look especially sharp – but they also reveal image noise or pixels more clearly than matte materials. As a rule of thumb, your photo should reach at least around 150 dpi in the chosen format; more is better. If the resolution is tight, it's better to choose a slightly smaller format. Acrylic glass scratches a little more easily than real glass. So never clean it dry – use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth instead, without glass cleaner, alcohol, ammonia or acetone. Light surface scratches can be polished out with a special acrylic polishing paste.

Acrylic glass is many times more impact-resistant than ordinary glass and doesn't shatter as easily. That makes it a good fit for hallways, children's rooms or offices. It isn't completely indestructible, though – avoid hard knocks to the corners and edges.

Acrylic glass weighs only about half as much as real glass – but an acrylic glass print is noticeably heavier than a canvas print. For larger formats, you should therefore choose wall plugs and screws suited to your wall rather than just a simple nail. If you want something especially lightweight, a photo on foam board is an alternative.

With normal humidity, this is usually not a problem. However, don't hang the picture where it can get splashed by the shower, sink or stove, or in rooms with constantly high humidity. It is not intended for outdoor use.

In normal daylight, the colors stay brilliant for many years. Constant direct sunlight can bleach colors in the long run, though – a spot out of bright sunshine is ideal.
